Low Sodium Bean Dip, Gluten Free Diet, Healthy Lifestyle, Italian

Black Bean Dip


1/4 cup Olive Oil

2 small yellow onions, chopped

4 cloves garlic, chopped

Jalapeño peppers, chopped ( 1 or 2 to taste)

2 (15.5 ounce) cans black beans, rinsed and drained

1 Tbsp Sebastiano's Spicy Sicilian or Italian Garlic 

2 tablespoons lime juice

3 tablespoons water

1/4 cup fresh chopped cilantro

Salt & Pepper to Taste, if desired.



Heat the olive oil over medium heat in a small saucepan. Add the onions, garlic, and jalapeño peppers and cook, stirring occasionally, until tender.  Transfer the cooked onion mixture to a blender or food processor and add the black beans, seasonings, lime juice, water and cilantro. Blend until smooth. If the dip is too thick, add more water or lime juice until you reach desired texture. Serve warm, cold or room temperature with tortilla chips.  You could also add chopped tomatoes and/or additional chopped cilantro for a more colorful presentation. 


The seeds of the Jalapeño are going to provide the most heat.  Season according to your tastes.  If you use the Spicy Sicilian Seasoning Mix, it also will be hotter the longer the mix sets.  So if you are not going to eat this right away, don't over season unless you are real HOTTIE LOVER!!!!
